Biggest Cheats?

I recently ran across a survey about cheating. Pollsters asked people from all over Europe which country had the biggest cheats in sports.

Before I reveal the results, I'll ask for your guesses here. The first person to post a correct answer (in other words, which nation, according to other Europeans, has the most cheaters) will earn a place on the Sports Academics Honor Roll.

Well Corry, I watched you type the puzzle - Is it France? Just a stab in the dark...

umm, you would think, but nope. Not France.

It's not clear what you're asking by "biggest" (most notorious? most frequent?) I'm assuming it's which country the Europeans thinks has the most cheaters and that would probably be the US, with Landis and Armstrong as the most visible evidence.

There's an interesting article in Yahoo about the fan psychology of doping, either inspiring self-deception (my guys wouldn't dope) or cynicism due to repeated disillusionment: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080803/ap_on_sp_ol/oly_drugs___doubt

Question asked = "who cheats most in sports?" (as in which nation). Admittedly pretty vague, but that's how it's presented in the article. The US must have a pretty good image, since it doesn't score as the worst cheating country in the survey. But the focus of the survey is Europe.

In that case, Italy?

We have a winner. More in a post later this week. But Italians were judged the most likely to cheat by all Europeans (including Italians!).
